Salam alaikum. i hope we are all in good health. Ma Sha Allah.
I’m sure some of us have been waiting for part II of Muslimah style tips. I hope there are more parts to come, insha Allah. You can read the first part here
Moving on to clothing, staples to a Muslimah wardrobe. While it is important to compliment an outfit with accessories, we’d have to build an outfit first.
Here’s a checklist to building a strong foundation of timeless, versatile pieces.
An outfit for every occasion {HIJAB}
They can be any style or texture you want while still following the proper way to wear it (keep your hair and neck covered while still making it flowy/ voluminous). Invest in black, white and every other neutral colour of pashmina, patterned silk scarves, under caps and amira hijabs.
JACKETS
Denim Jacket: a dark wash and a slim fit look most polished
Black cashmere wrap/ Cardigans: popularly known as “boyfriend jacket”. A neutral shade goes with everything and a longer style flatters most figures.
One-button blazer: because it’s black, it goes with everything. You can wear it comfortably and fashionably either open or closed, and you have the option of wearing it over a dress or skirt.
MAXI GOWNS AND SKIRTS
Plain coloured and patterned maxis are just a hit anytime.
TOPS
Long sleeved black, white (and any other colour) T-shirt: A sophisticated layering piece, it works well under a dress or dress shirt. For a trim silhouette in white, choose a slim-fit one that skims your body but does not cling.
Tank tops: get one in black and white and any other neutral colour. Dress it up with a skirt and jacket.
Button down shirts: get them in a single colour. In cotton and silk materials.
Gown tops/ Tunics: the length should be on your knee or longer. They can be paired with trousers.
JEANS
Trousers: It’s worth paying extra for jeans that fit and flatter. Your best bet? A dark, bootcut pair made from stretch denim with no more than 2% lycra
Skirts: A line sort of style plus a maxi denim skirt
PANTS
Black Pants: to get the most from this wardrobe staple, select a style made of an all-season fabric, like tropical wool or viscose.
Harem Pants: For when the dress is too short (above the knee). They are my current favourites 😀
JALABS/ ABAYAS:
A plain black one, Black with gold embellishments, Black with other coloured embellishments. Then, Jablas in earth toned colours.
Because they make a whole outfit, the colour has to be soothing to the eye. They are appropriate for formal outings, weddings and Eid.
ANKARA!!!
This is such a versatile and cheap fabric which can be sewn into any style! Timeless pieces they are!!
Oh! And lots of underwear, PJs and socks -_______-
